Objectives In this module the student will acquire knowledge of: • theories and concepts in the area of tourism consumption • debates related to tourism consumption and sustainability • the spatial, material and affective dimensions of tourism consumption In this module, the student will acquire skills in: • identifying and critically discussing debates within tourism consumption in digital and non-digital contexts • selecting and applying relevant conceptual and methodological tools for the analysis of tourism consumption • producing critical and creative analyses of tourism consumption. In this module, the student will acquire competencies in: • analysing tourism consumption • reflecting on issues related to tourism consumption and sustainability • independently continuing own competency development within the area of tourism consumption.

Course Activities Type of teaching e.g. lectures, exercises, workshops, group work, if possible the number of assignments/portfolio assignments etc. The students will produce a podcast about a theme related to Tourism consumption.

Academic Content and Conjunction with Other Courses/Semesters The course provides students with insight into different social and cultural theoretical and empirical perspectives on contemporary tourism consumption. We will critically assess how theories can further our understanding of tourism consumption. Critical attention is paid to different concepts and categories of tourism consumption and the aim is to provide more nuanced understanding the complex realities and paradoxes of tourism consumption. Applied and Recommended Readings
Each session of the course will be based on theoretical texts, as well as case materials, and interactivity in the form of class- and group discussions, student presentations, and workshops will be applied to further student learning throughout the course. Materials for the course consist in various texts available through the library, and if not, a file is attached under the relevant session. What students are expected to read is stated under the 'Readings' heading. The references indicated at the end of each set of session slides are also suggested further readings. |
Examination The examination is a 4-day take home written exam given by the examiner on the basis of the curriculum of the module. The assignment paper must be prepared individually and must not exceed 8 pages. Assessment: grading according to the 7-point scale.
